New Books!

Karen Kingsbury has started a new series, Angels Walking.  The first book, Angels Walking, is a whole new take on angels (fiction of course).  Two angels are assigned to go down to earth and interact in the lives of humans.  This book, typical of Karen, is a well-written  romance and will hold your interest to the end.

Jan Karon also has a new book after quite a dry spell.  Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good.  Her book was listed on the New York Times Bestseller List this last week.  Yeah for Jan. This is the 10th book in the Mitford Series.

Jane Kirkpatrick's newest book A Light in the Wilderness, I believe is one of her very best book.  The central character is a freed black woman,  who makes her way out to Oregon with a wagon train on The Oregon Trail.  This historical fiction is so well done and worth your time to read.

Revelation Unveiled, by Tim LaHaye will be of special interest to those of you taking Tom Tillman's current class.  There is so much depth in Revelation that it is helpful to have new books, such as this, help us understand this important book.

With several worship styles in our churches today you might want to consider reading this new book, The Unquenchable Worshipper: Coming Back to the Heart of Worship.  An older book, but very comprehensive, would be Worship the Missing Jewel by Borror and Allen.  Both titles are available in our library currently.

In today's troubled world many people question why there is so much suffering.  Ravi Zacharias has attempted to answer that question with his new book, Why Suffering?  Finding Meaning and Comfort When Life Doesn't Make Sense.

Also on that same theme is the DVD, Through a Lens Darkly: Grief, Loss and C.S. Lewis.  Both of these are new to our collection.

New Non-Fiction

Each of God's names reveals a defining quality about the Lord's nature and character. In Scripture he revealed these names to his people only as they needed them. In Knowing God by Name, David Wilkerson explores ten of the Hebrew names for God that most relate to times of testing and crisis, including El Elyon, El Shaddai, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Nissi, and Jehovah Shalom. This book is for any believer who wants to get to know God better, and particularly for those who need hope, encouragement, and a special word from God in a difficult time. It will give them a heart knowledge of God, a revelation of his names on a personal level, and a personal application of their fullest meaning-not for mere theological knowledge, but for everyday assurance and growth.

Each of God's names reveals a wonderful aspect about His nature that can meet your deepest needs, comfort you in times of personal tragedy, and release you to new heights of praise in times of joy. God is so vast that the heavens cannot contain Him: likewise, His personality is so complex that one name cannot adequately describe Him. Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself to His people through His various names. Marilyn's practical teaching on 19 different names of God will whet your appetite to pursue fully God's love and purpsoe for your life.

Do you enjoy Biblically based historical fiction?  Christian writer, Mesu Andrews is a relatively new author who does an amazing job of research to be sure she has a sound Biblical background for her stories.  Mesu lives in Vancouver, Wa. and her husband is on the faculty at Multnomah University.  We have several of her books in the library and I found her writing extremely well done and captivating.  Love Among the Ashes is her newest title, and is about the life of Job.  I highly recommend her books. Not to Be Missed Books! by Doris Howard

On the book shelf above are some are the following "not to missed books".
Auschwitz escape - The true story of two Jewish men who were probably the only ones who ever successfully escaped this notorious prison. The reason was there burning desire to warn the world about what was happening to the Jewish people under Hitler's regime.

The Glory of Heaven - John MacArthur's new book that joins several other excellent books in our library on Heaven. In anticipation of the Lord's soon return this is a timely book.

An additional new book on this same subject is "Things unseen" Living in light of forever by Mark Buchanan.

Thank you, Billy Graham: A tribute to the life and ministry of Billy Graham - This delightful biography is written by those who knew him best - his children.

The Narrow Road - True stories of people who experienced persecution for their faith. Brother Andrew co-authored this book.

Walking with God through pain and suffering - by Timothy Keller.

"Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus" Review by John Kauffman

Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus is the autobiographical account of a dedicated Muslim who is eager to  know
God. Living in America, Nabeel Qureshi enjoyed sharing his faith with Christian friends and was disappointed that so many were unable to defend their faith.

Then he met David who challenged Nabeel with historical evidence for Jesus’ death and resurrection as well as Jesus’ claim to be God.

As you read Nabeel’s story, you will be introduced to an Islamic worldview from the inside and will gain an appreciation for some major differences between the East and the West. Especially moving is the account of his family’s reaction to his conversion.

According to Ravi Zacharias, “This is truly a ‘must-read book’ for our times as world views face the test of truth.”

New Book Coming on Sunday!

An exciting new book, The Four Blood Moons, will be in the library on Sunday.  Dr. John Hagee has written this intriguing book about the  four total eclipses of the moon  with a solar eclipse between numbers 2 and 3.  Those eclipses which are occurring in the next 16 months are only the fourth time in recorded history where this sequence has occurred.  The previous 3 sequences have been times when major events have happened to the Jewish nation. Acknowledging that only God knows when Christ will return to take His people home, Dr. Hagee believes that perhaps this ecliptical sequence could possibly be when Christ returns.  This is a well written book which should evoke the searching of Scripture and good discussion between believers and non-believers.

"Becoming Oliva" Life Saving Fiction

First thing, if you hover your cursor over the book cover on the shelf above it will say that this is book three in a series- Don't let that stop you from reading this! I didn't even realize it WAS part of series until after I read it. The author gave us this title and we don't have the first two in the series. Having said that,"Becoming Oliva" is one of those books that stays with you and touches you on so many levels . "Olivia “Libby” Marsden has the perfect life...good kids, a wonderful husband, and a strong Christian faith. Why then is she increasingly depressed?" The storyline follows Oliva through her battle with ever deepening depression while trying to hide it from everyone in her life. We get to see how it effects her and her family. Written with excellence in a way that only one who has faced the battle herself can. The author has been told more than once that "Your book literally saved my life". It gives hope to those afflicted and insight to friends and family members of those struggling. I highly recommend it. Review by Libby S.
